#1444 LaTeX etc don't find editor

When I press "e" in response to an error in miktex 2.5
., latex reports that it couldn't start the editor.
This is not surprising as debug view (with
trace=values) shows

[1436] core: [latex]Editor => "$(windir)\notepad.exe"
"%f"

and notepad isn't there on my system (and I would like
to use winedt anyway). The manual mentions that one can
change the "configuration value editor". But I couldn't
find out how.

    This has been fixed (an update will be available soon).
    The default editor is Notepad. You can changes this
    in the application ini file or by
    setting the environment variable MIKTEX_EDITOR.
    For example:
    set MIKTEX_EDITOR=editor.exe /file:"%f" /line:"%l"
    This will be documented asap.

    Thanks for the fast answer. Please document too, what is
    "the application ini file" and how local changes/additions
    can be made to this file.

    I have changed the default editor: TeX now reads the
    Yap configuration in order to find the preferred editor.
    The MIKTEX_EDITOR setting overrides this. But I think it
    is more convenient to chose the editor with the help of
    Yap. Maybe the UI will move from Yap to MO (MiKTeX Options).
