Creat a short plain tex file called test.tex
containing, for example:

A problem, ${$.
\bye

Run tex, with -c-style-errors in nonstopmode:

tex -c-style-errors -interaction=nonstopmode test

The output is:

This is TeX, Version 3.141592 (MiKTeX 2.4)
(test.tex
test.tex:1: Missing } inserted
[1] )
(see the transcript file for additional information)
Output written on test.dvi (1 page, 224 bytes).
Transcript written on test.log.

This is is okay. But now add the -quiet flag:

tex -c-style-errors -interaction=nonstopmode -quiet test

Now the output is incorrect: we get

test.tex:1: Missing

The expected output is

test.tex:1: Missing } inserted

The error line has been truncated at the } character.
