This is something I really liked to use in blender and VERY easy to add to meshlab.
First of all, the rotation matrix of the viewport could be controlled by the numeric pad:
NUM 2,4,6,8: rotate horizontally and vertically according to the current viewport
NUM 5: restore default view (similar to your shift-command-h)
NUM 1,3,7: look down z, y and x (refer to blender to know exactly the order)
The other blender-like feature was the ability of controlling manually the matrix
by sequences of keyboard entries:
m,x,2: moves object along x by +2
r,y,-30: rotates along y axis by 30 degrees.
These kind of interactions are essential when you are rendering your shape over
and over, and you want to make sure to have the same alignment all the time!!
