The “test” that is failing is in the Makefile in the toplevel directory. It is a shell script “test”.

There was a new addition , a test at line 147 or thereabouts, change it from a –e test to a –h, and see if that gets you any further. My Solaris box is giving me trouble, so I fail a little later.

Heath.

I found some debugging messages using gmake. When I did "gmake -d sunos5-v9" I get the following messages:

A whole bunch of "Trying implicit prerequisite" and "Trying pattern rule" attempts which seem to be okay and then the last 10 or so lines look like this:

Updating goal targets....

Considering target file 'sunos5-v9'.

 File 'sunos5-v9' does not exist.

Finished prerequisites of target file 'Makefile'.

Must remake target 'sunos5-v9'.

Putting child 0x00057e50 (sunos5-v9) PID 22285 on the chain.

Live child 0x00057e50 (sunos5-v9) PID 22285

/bin/sh: test: argument expected

Got a SIGCHLD; 1 unreaped children.

Reaping losing child 0x00057e50 PID 22285

gmake: *** [sunos5-v9] Error 1

Removing child 0x00057e50 PID 22285 from chain.

I also tried "gmake --debug sunos5-v9" and I get this error output:

Copyright information...

PARTICULAR PURPOSE.

Reading makefiles...

Updating goal targets....

 File 'sunos5-v9' does not exist.

Must remake tagret 'sunos5-v9'.

/bin/sh: test: argument expected

gmake: *** [sunos5-v9] Error 1

Does this information help you out any trying to figure out what is going wrong? Thanks!

Todd

Read the man page for 'make' and see if there's any debug options to
show more info.
