No

Immediately after using 7zip 9.20 to extract the contents of MeGUI_2418_x86.zip to C:\MeGUI and attempting to run MeGUI.exe for the first time, the program displays the error message "MeGIU encountered a fatal error and may not be able to proceed. Reason: Illegal characters in path."

The program, however, does not crash at this point. When I attempt to perform an update (Options > Update), the program displays the error message "MeGUI encountered a fatal error and may not be able to proceed. Reason: Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

Sorry, I cannot reproduce the problem. I tried it in the same way and extracted & used a fresh copy.

Thanks for looking into it! I finally figured things out after banging my head against this for a while - I simply hadn't installed Haali Media Splitter. Is that requirement documented anywhere besides the first post here: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=151159 on doom9? The wiki only mentions avisynth and the readme file mentions neither.

Even when you do not have the Haali splitter installed it should not crash. I have to investigate in this direction.

And yes, it is mentioned also in the log file.

Thanks - I found a problem which may have caused your error.

If the reg key HKLM\SOFTWARE\HaaliMkx Install_Dir is already there without a proper value it will cause the problem you have described. I already fixed it in the latest development build.
