No

I click on a media.
Then I enter a category.
I reiterate for each newly added media.

Then I compute stats on category : no weight !!!

Indeed, entering a category on a media in the right
panel do not add all the files of the media in the
category.
I think that the recursive in depth behaviour MUST be
the default one for users.

(or i will be force to select all and then enter the
category)

I agree the "select subtree" feature could be made so it's
    lighter to use.
Your first weight comuting seems buggy as well, gotta patch
    that.
However, I don't think categorizing every file of a medium
should be the default behaviour : it would make the
categories overcrowded and therefore useless. That was the
behaviour of ADC categories, and it was barely usable only
because they were not hierarchical (more of a tag). In fact
we've already talked about that in a mail : see
    http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=6170690&forum_id=43336
Imagine all files of your linux distribution being
categorized as "os/mdk10"... a nightmare for the search
function; or if you want to find a specific file (say,
    etc/services) of a specific distribution (say, mdk10), do a
search with "directory" criterium on the mdk10 media, and
    the right name criterium.

so I'll improve the feature provided by "select subtree" in
your idea (and maybe add category-oriented indexation
options) but I won't autocategorize by default a whole medium.

I categorize only "by media" (a game cdrom, a work cdrom).

Then how to find a java file that is in a Game category ?
Must I say "I am looking for a java file that is a Media
that is in the Game category" ?

currently I use to categorizing all the files on the media
    to achieve it !

and with the select subtree.... it is very long !

    Guess we should
    * restrain the scope select subtree (maybe add a
    configurable max depth property)
    * add a "look in subfiles of categorized directories as
    well" to the category criterium
    * patch the category weight computing so it inludes
    subdirectories' weight
