I have installed 5.9.0 successfully (required enable of
Block TCL replied unblock (firewall?) ran test suite all
OK.
Tried 5.9.1 same prompt, replied 'unblock' failed to start
I get the windows, but no prompt and a timeout
message.

same story with 5.9.2.

I am running XP SP2 all updates applied, Spybot search
and Destory (most recent updates), Ad-aware(most
recent updates) Nortons virus (not yupdated for the last
month and MS Antispyware (most recent updates)

checked firewall entries showed three entries 'unblocked
for 5.9.0 and 5.9.1 and 5.9.2 ?
I used widws binaries.

any suggestions?
thanks

    Hello,
I can remember that I have installed 5.9.1 on a friends XP
machine and that I had similar problems. If I remember
right, I switched off the Windows-firewall and everything
works. The firewall complained about TCL. I think too, it
might be a problem with one of your blockers.
Are you able to use the Maxima command line version?

Changed title of bug report to reflect cause of problem
(Windows firewall). No progress towards a solution yet.

This is clearly local firewall problem and is out
of Maxima control. Please check you firewall rules.
Note that xmaxima may be listed in firewall rile list
not as xmaxima but probably as tcl/tk or something
like this. The appropriate warning will be put into
next release of Maxima Windows installer (Maxima 5.9.4).
