Hello,

I am attempting to install atlas on a Macbook Pro OS X 10.8 - I receive the warning about CPU throttling mentioned in the docs. It says that without being able to disable this, ATLAS won't perform well. After a significant amount of googling/stack overflowing, I have been unable to locate a way to disable this feature. Has anyone on this list had experience with turning off CPU throttling on mac os x, or should this be considered an essentially unsupported OS?

Additionally, does the variable clock speed associated with Intel Turboboost invalidate ATLAS timings?

Thank you,

Sam Manzer

  • I'm no expert in OS X, but this page says something about it:
    http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/41045/how-can-i-disable-cpu-throttling-and-cpu-disabling

The Intel Turboboost is much more subtle than OS controlled throttling; I'm sure it deforms the results, but it doesn't make them random as OS-controlled throttling does.

If googling and the above link don't work, maybe you should post this question to the developer list. There are people there who use OS X a lot, unlike me. I only have access to 1 machine running OS X, and since it is a laptop I only use on travel, I don't use it much.
