Please consider allowing variables to be used in IPTC fields so the IPTC can be saved into snapshot templates to be filled out during IPTC writing to files.

For example:

{job} for the name of the job

{seqn} for the sequential number

{dow} for day of week the photo was created such as Monday, Tuesday Wednesday...

{todaydow} for current day of week Monday, Tuesday Wednesday...

{month} for the month when the photo was made as a number such as 1 for January, 2 for February, 3 for March

{month2} for the month when the photo was made as a number with leading zero such as 01 for January, 02 for February, 03 for March ...

{todaymonth} for the month as a number such as 1 for January, 2 for February, 3 for March

{todaymonth2} for the month as a number with leading zero such as 01 for January, 02 for February, 03 for March ...

{monthnameap} for month name when the photo was taken using Associated Press style such as (Jan., Feb. March, April, May, June, July, Aug. Sept. Oct. Nov. Dec.)

{monthname} for month name when the photo was made such as January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, Decemeber.

{todaymonthnameap} for current month name using Associated Press style (Jan., Feb. March, April, May, June, July, Aug. Sept. Oct. Nov. Dec.)

{todaymonthname} for current month name January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, Decemeber.

{todaydate} for today's date 1, 2, 3 ...

{todaydate2} for today's date with leading zero 01, 02, 03 ...

{year2} for the two digit year the photo was made such as 06

{todayyear2} for current year as two digits such as 07

{year4} for the year the photo was made such as 2006

{todayyear4} for current year as four digits such as 2007

for example renaming files on ingest (copying) could use a file name like:

rename to:{job} {seqn}.jpg

where job could be: election

seqn could be 101, 1001 , 10001 etc. if you wanted 3, 4, 5 or more digits in the serial number

the result would be like this:

election 101.jpg
election 102.jpg
election 103.jpg

and in the caption, you can make a snapshot like this:

on {todaydow} {todaymonthnameap} {todaydate}, {todayyear4}.

So Mapivi would evaluate the variables upon stamping each photo on ingest with the IPTC snapshot and results would look like:

on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007.

Thanks for considering this feature.

    Hi,

for feature request 1 "batch renaming files": This is already available. Simple mark all pictures to rename, press Ctrl-Shift-R and write "election " as file name. Mapivi will automatically add an index number as needed.

for feature request 2 "variables in IPTC templates": Nice idea, but I don't understand the use case completly. For the date and time there is a special IPTC tag "DateCreated" and "TimeCreated". Mapivi is already able to fill them in based on the EXIF creation date. So why do you want to have this info again in the Caption?

    Regards
    Martin
