I would drop DB support and won't bother adding Sqlite. The more we support, the bigger our test matrix and limitations are. I agree with Damien's suggestions for which versions to support for each database type. Please refer to check_database_inc.php in master branch, I added some code there last year which will issue warnings as appropriate when using outdated/unsupported versions. The version information is complete and up-to-date for MySQL and PostgreSQL.
