I'm working on the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 port and I've got two
issues so far that are a bit tricky:
1. SQL Server does not support indexes on the text type
The only way that I could index text types would be to use full text
indexing which would be a pain. This is a problem for
mm_ticket.from_email and mm_messsage.message_id
The best solution at the moment that I can see is to make these both
2000 character varchar.
2. SQL Server has no equivalent of nextval
SQL Server does have an 'IDENTITY' feature that can be used with
'PRIMARY KEY' however although this will generate new values in
series as we require there is no equivalent of the NEXTVAL() function
and from my trial and error MySQL's 'FOR UPDATE' for locking is also
There is a solution here: http://jamesthornton.com/software/
This looks the best approach.
