I'm going to post this before it gets any later. I know there's a couple of
people who are desparate for the final 2.1 release to go out (I'm one of
them I assure you).
There have been a considerable number of bugfixes since rc2, a large number
of which are related to unicode. Unicode issues aside, the RELENG_2_1 branch
is now relatively stable, and I would encourage anyone who wishes to deploy
it, to test it out and get involved in the release process. Those who have
been submitting bug reports, it is greatly appreciated, and I hope we are
getting issues turned around promptly.
The 2.1 release now requires the following changes to be made:
* You need the environment variable TZ set to UTC before running zope.
This can be configured in runzope or zopectl.
* The postgres database adapter needs to be configured to output unicode
* Existing postgres databases need to be dumped/restored and converted
into utf-8 encoding. I've got a script for this although it's not
fully tested yet.
I'll need to do some work on the MySQL version to confirm what changes if
any need to be done for that. The README file has been updated with the
above instructions. There is also a debian installer in progress, which
should take care of the above issues, and from that it should be much
easier to complete installers for other distributions.
There isn't a lot of point in another RC release until the last of the
sourceforge bugs are resolved, so I'm still going to postpone this until
these are done. Hopefully this should be resolved relatively soon.
