Hi,

I am in the process of building up a csv file for importing/creating attributes/sets/groups to use with this extension http://www.commerceextensions.com/magento-import-export-bulk-product-attributes.html as i have aprox 30,000 attributes to create.

And i will be using magmi for importing of products, which so far has been great.

However, i now want to populate all my products with attribute values.
The problem is, i think, that with magmi i need to be putting in the header each attribute code that i want to import and the value in each field. eg:

sku,attribute_set,colour,screen_size,memory,hard_drive_size
abc,LED TVs,silver,42,,
acs,LED TVs,black,32,,
aer,Laptops,black,15.4,4gb,1TB
agt,Laptops,blue,17.1,2GB,350GB

Whereas i want to be able to use a much simpler way, which is to have these as the header:

sku,attribute_code,value

So a csv using the above might look like:

sku,attribute_code,value
abc,colour,silver
abc,screen_size,42
acs,colour,black
acs,screen_size,32
aer,colour,black
aer,screen_size,15.4
aer.memory,4GB
aer,hard_drive_size,1TB
agt,colour,blue
agt,screen_size,17.1
agt.memory,2GBGB
agt,hard_drive_size,350GB

Is this possible in any way, either out of the box, or by way of customization?

Whilst the way i want to do it my be many more rows, it only needs 3 columns, which are easily exportable from my database, else using the original method, i would have way too many columns, and i fear that in order to export the data from my database might be near on impossible using that method.

Thanks for your help.

  • Interesting use case indeed.

currently, magmi only handles column based attribute name/value setttings
and this layout has many advantages (like enabling one time multiple
    inserts on the DB)

However, it might be possible to create an alternate CSV datasource that
would handle your kind of format. it would however need clever reading in
order to "recompose" column equivalents for this csv layout to keep
performance optimizations given by multiple inserts.

It's clearly not a priority right now on magmi dev schedule but i'll keep
    it in mind.
