Hi I was wondering if anyone on here could help me
with a problem I'm having. I've installed the
mad-wifi drivers on gentoo using emerge and I have
inserted the modules using modprobe. However when I
run ifconfig ath0 up I get a "No such device" error.
A copy of the output from when a run dmesg is at
Everything after "ath%d: unable to attach hardware;
HAL status 14" seems a bit suspicious...
Can anyone give me any suggestions as to what I might
have done wrong? I did get the drivers working once,
but then I uninstalled the card and I'm not sure if
I've messed up reinstalling the driver.

I have an HP Pavilon m7480n I have just recently installed both Ubuntu and CentOS (currently using CentOS) and after compiling Madwifi with out any problems I try to load it "modprobe ath_pci", nothing happens but I get this message in my logs
"wifi%d: unable to attach hardware: 'Hardware self-test failed' (HAL status 14)"
The hardware works fine, as I am using it currently under windows Vista. Vista says I have a "Atheros AR5006X Wireless Network Adapter"
Any help would be appreciated.
