Hello all, Using CVS from 11/28/2003 on Mandrake 9.2 (kernel 2.4.22), I am able to install wlan.o and ath_hal.o, but not ath_pci.o. I get the following in the log: wlan: 0.7.1.1 BETA (Sam Leffler <sa...@er...>) ath_hal: 0.9.5.18 ath_pci: 0.8.3.2 BETA (Sam Leffler <sa...@er...>) ath_pci: PCI: Found IRQ 10 for device 00:0e.0 ath%%d: unable to attach hardware; HAL status 13 ath_pci: No devices found, driver not installed. I read in a bug that this means that the hardware is unrecognized. The 0e is interesting because when I boot into Windows it tells me that the Wireless card is PCI device 14. It says it is IRQ 17, but that is probably meaningless as the box can assign any IRQs it wants each time it boots. In Windows it tells me the card is rev.B, which is probably important. "D-Link AirPlus DWL-G520 Wireless PCI Adapter(rev.B)". I bought this card less than a week ago. It does 802.11b and 802.11g. Nudges would be appreciated. Is this a bug or user error? --John (I sent this before but it awaited moderator approval since I hadn't signed up to the list yet. Apologies if it gets sent again due to that.) |

For the moment, I am afraid you are SOL. Your only chance is *the other product* as Sam likes to call it that lets you load windows NDIS drivers into Linux. FYI, I updated cvs today, got all new changes, compiled and tried to run, and got the same error (error 13-device not recognized). Not surprising, since the DWL-G520 is apparently a 5212. lspci -vv on the device tells me that so: 00:0e.0 Ethernet controller: Unknown device 168c:0013 (rev 01) Subsystem: D-Link System Inc: Unknown device 3a13 ... I am not clear why this is not working. Any hints on what other things I can try to see what is going on? --John John Keiser wrote: > Hello all, > > Using CVS from 11/28/2003 on Mandrake 9.2 (kernel 2.4.22), I am able > to install wlan.o and ath_hal.o, but not ath_pci.o. hi john,=20 The sf CVS typically runs between 24 and 48 hours behind the actual CVS tree for the project (or so I've heard). So if Sam has released the new HAL, then it probably won't have filtered through that far yet. regards, matt Quoting John Keiser (jo...@jo...): > FYI, I updated cvs today, got all new changes, compiled and tried to=20 > run, and got the same error (error 13-device not recognized). But if you look above, according to the device ID on the DWL-G520 (13) it is a 5212 radio, not a 5112 or 2112, so I'm guessing the new version wasn't designed to fix my problem (whatever it is) anyway. Still, the README seems to indicate that G520 and 5212 are supported, so I'm not sure what is up. --John |

Hi, >But if you look above, according to the device ID on the DWL-G520 (13) >it is a 5212 radio, not a 5112 or 2112, so I'm guessing the new version >wasn't designed to fix my problem (whatever it is) anyway. Still, the >README seems to indicate that G520 and 5212 are supported, so I'm not >sure what is up. Beware not to mix up the MAC/BB and the radio. 5212 and 5213 are MAC/BB chips, 5111/2111 (old) and 5112/2112 are radio chips. Principally, they max be freely combined, but I've seen only the following combinations so far: 5212 + 5111 + 2111 (oldest) 5212 + (5112 or 2112) (intermediate) 5213 + (5112 or 2112) (newest) Looking at the PCI device id will only tell you something about the MAC/BB (I'm not sure whether 5212 and 5213 have different ids). The radio chip version can only be found out by querying special registers in the MAC/BB, and I guess this is hidden in the HAL. Best regards Alfred Arnold -- Alfred Arnold E-Mail: al...@cc... anonymous CVS seems to have caught up with Sam's update. the version string claims to be hal 0.9.6.1. That version should support these 5212 cards that have the new radio. g Sam Leffler wrote: > On Sunday 30 November 2003 06:42 pm, John Keiser wrote: > >>FYI, I updated cvs today, got all new changes, compiled and tried to >>run, and got the same error (error 13-device not recognized). Ditto. I've got Dlink's DWL-G650 and HAL 0.9.6.1 still fails with status 13. This card is supposed to do only B and G - not A, although it certainly has Atheros chips. Hi. I've checked that version of the HAL (0.9.6.1) with my Conceptronic C54C PCMCIA card (just bought) and I get the same error message, as I reported in the SF bug #852390. For more information on my system/card configuration see the bug report at: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=3Ddetail&aid=3D852390&group_i= d=3D82936&atid=3D567753 BTW, after filing the report I've tried to make PCMCIA modular/not modular, ACPI on/off and PCI IRQ assignment "normal"/acpi/bios, with the same results every time.
