the macbook (not pro)?
mine has the following wifi device:
02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5006EG
802.11 b/g Wireless PCI Express Adapter (rev 01)
every configuration i tried was unusable; probably 1 in 50 connection

Didn't know until now, just googled for it. Here's the result:
If the card should be bound to 802.11a,b or g, do
$ iwpriv ath0 mode X
where X stands for 0=802.11a/b/g, 1=802.11a, 2=802.11b, or 3=802.11g.
So, it binds the card to 802.11g. I think now I remember that the
problem with the card not associating with an 802.11g AP (I'm using an
Apple AirPort Express) was because of the wifi adapter trying to hop
between frequency ranges of a and b/g or something like that.
