Hi LXDE devs, is it possible to make a separate package for lxde-settings instead of including it in lxde-common? ATM Everything in lxde-common is noarch, except the lxde-settings binary. This makes packaging harder for the distro maintainers and forces unnecessary updates for the users. So I suggest to split the source tarball, maybe even make a lxde-artwork package? Totally agree with you! Would you please help us do it? Personally I don't have much experience on this kind of issues. I know this could cause some problems for packagers, though. Thank you for the suggestion! BTW, what's the current status of lxde in Fefora? Of course I will try to help you where I can but what exactly do you want me do do? I don't think there is much you need to care about, you just need to setup a new module in svn, put lxde-settings there together with a Makefile and make a release when you are ready to go. The rest is IMO up to the maintainers and should not cause much trouble for them. > BTW, what's the current status of lxde in Fefora? The following packages are already in Fedora: * pcmanfm * openbox * lxpanel * lxtask * lxappearance * lxlauncher * lxterminal * gpicview * leafpad * xarchiver 3 packages are still in review: * lxsession: we are having some issues with user switching. in a perfect world this would have policy kit support. * lxde-common: because of the arch vs. noarch thing * lxde-icon-theme: I also made a separate package for the icon theme I hope I can finish the reviews soon so that we have a complete LX desktop and a livecd ready for Fedora 10. What I did in debian is split the single binary into separate package called lxde-settings-daemon and also built meta-packages lxde and lxde-core from this source package. -Andrew |

How should this work? rpm can not build sub-packages [1] with different architectures, because unlike debbuild it only accepts one "BuildArch" tag per spec. > What I did in debian is split the single binary into separate package > called lxde-settings-daemon and also built meta-packages lxde and > lxde-core from this source package. sub- or meta-packages are not the problem, the different arches and the missing distinction between large, static noarch content with nearly no updates, binaries and config is. Regards, Christoph [1] I consider a sub-package as a package that is build from the same sources as the main package in the same build process |
