I can try to get things going and so on but I can not follow C code and any breakage in the build is pretty much a guarantee for a complete halt for me. I would be happy to help with getting the things into the lxpanel master. My first priority for now is to solve my build issue on debian testing and as I can not follow the code and am not very skilled in build things at all this might very well be a stopper for a long time. I've succesfully built lxpanel yesterday from git master on Lubuntu 12.04 (alpha 1), it's your build system I think. If I close the tabs in the same order I have opened them, the freeze occurrences greatly decease. I have tried with LibreOffice. I have also re-enabled Firefox icon to show up in the panel. It did not work so well in this case. Firefox main window, the download window and the browser window, they all open a separate tab in the lxpanel, and it's difficult to follow the order. > Usually on lists you should reply directly and cc the list and > everyone else involved in the discussion. I pass the 2 commands several times a day when a panel freeze occurs $ killall -9 lxpanel $ lxpanel -- profile LXDE& I have to keep a bash window open in permanence. I often close it by mistake. It terminates the panel... I can not launch bash again using Ctrl+F2. It's a small annoyance. If I could keep a file on my desktop (a script) and simply click on it when a freeze occur, it would help. Could somebody on the list, with basic shell scripting knowlege, write a simple script to run the two commands above, if possible in the background (i.e. without opening a shell window). How about fixing this part with libwnck? Previously lxpanel did some dirty Xlib stuff inside tasklist.c. Since the latest lxpanel already uses a small part of libwnck, I think it's a good idea to fix this part with libwnck instead of touch Xlib low level stuff ourselves. In the new lxpanel2, I already start using libwnck 3.0 and it works very well. BTW, a very primitive version of lxpanel2 might be available soon. However, gtk3 is quite different from gtk2 in some ways, especially the widget geometry handling. I'm still learning about that part and will put lxpanel2 online when it's usable. Using vala indeed makes development faster and easier, but due to various bugs of vala, it sometimes generates wrong C code which does not compile. So, it's not a silver bullet, either. :-) On Tue, Feb 7, 2012 at 9:41 AM, Радик Юсупов <ra...@ya...> wrote: > 05.02.2012 16:48, Henry Gebhardt пишет: > > Dear list members, dear Julien, > > > > although I haven't received much feedback on this patch, I do think it > > fixes the issue mentioned in this thread, and in any case it does fix an > > issue I could reproduce on my machine, and I found basically the same > > fix in the lxpanelx branch, so please consider merging the gtk2-fixes > > branch from my usual place: > > > > git://github.com/hsgg/lxpanel.git > > > > I hope I used the correct URL this time.:) > It works! :) > Thank you! > > http://git.altlinux.org/people/radik/packages/lxde-lxpanel.git > > -- > ALTLinux Team > My project: http://lxdesktop.altlinux.org > > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > Keep Your Developer Skills Current with LearnDevNow! > The most comprehensive online learning library for Microsoft developers > is just $99.99! Many people use either one or the other flavor, I am pretty sure I would have noticed if we met such an issue, especially since we have forums dedicated to the different pclinuxos flavors and I visit them regularly. I have put up the Openbox with Lxpanel versions myself, and tested them plus had quite a bunch of people testing them directly on the forum for a while before it was uploaded to the repositories or for the latest ones declared good for all by the testers. Is it possible to figure out why some meet with issues in one distribution and users in another don't ? To the persons who met with crashes or freezes : have you had a look at the file ~/.xsession-errors just after the issue arise or if you don't have one did you manage to have a command likely to generate one ? From within ~/.xinitrc for instance ? Regards, Mélodie -- PCLinuxOS Fr http://pclinuxos-fr.org |
