Dear all, please add your blog to the LXDE Planet. I just had a look over the feeds collected at LXDE Planet. During the last year we saw more contributors joining on a continuous basis and it would be great if we could all keep each other up to date through the different channels available. Contributors please add your LXDE feed category to the planet. We have a dedicated wiki page for blog feeds here: http://wiki.lxde.org/en/Planet_LXDE @ Mwei: Thanks for checking from time to time. All the best, Mario |

The reason is that the components are actually all independent. They release on their individual schedules with individual version numbers. It's going to make things easier. In the SVN setup I used in Pootle we did "nothing" with the files in trunk/lxpanel-plugins, the data was merged to trunk/lxpanel/src/plugins. So what happened since then? This must be cleared. Og also told me about the switch to Git that happened during the weekend, I haven't seen the mails about them yet but I will eventually. I have stopped the Pootle server until it is cleared. I did on checkin to pcmanfm and one to lxde this morning (CET) and think we already have diverges to work with. |

Hi Hong Jen Yee, Martin Bagge (brother) and I were discussing today on #LXDE about the situation of lxpanel and how it may be overlapping lxpanel-plugins. I suggest porting GPicView to use GtkImageView component used by viewnior. It's quite fast and it's even better than the implementation of GPicview. Then we can focus on usability and don't need to worry about the painting stuff. I plan to do multi-threading in GPicView to make it even smoother. Another possible way is utilizing libfm. Later libfm will have thumbnail support, which is also useful for GPicView. Also the async. dir loading facilities of libfm can be used by GPicView. GPicVew can be more user-friendly. After libfm is finished, I'll do it. Those are on my TODO list: 1. multi-threading support 2. optional image preloading??? 3. integrate with libfm 4. possible thumbnail support. 5. Use GtkImageView Having libfm and gtkimageview could increase dependencies, but this can great enhance usability and the performance can even be better. Of course, help and patches are always needed. Hi, I made a quick review of pcmanfm2 and compare it with the old pcmanfm to track regression between the 2 versions. Currently, I can identify those regressions : - We can't use the terminal option inside the file manager (can't either configure it) - There is no option "Open as root". - The tab name is shown when there is only one tab - Custom actions in the contextual menu are missing (like Extract here for archive) - The "Applications" Menu doesn't seem to be supported for now (or I didn't find how). A way to hide it until it's supported will be nice. - View : Ability to remove and customize sidebar and the tools bar are missing. - No Search ability. - Translation (but it's in progress) More important for me are on the top of the list. I also find some bugs, but some may be considered as feature request : - When you set a wallpaper, the settings is not saved. - When gvfs is not installed, pcmanfm2 still show the Trash, which cause segfault when you click on it. It could be nice if not supported location was hidden from the sidebar. - It's the same for the Desktop, when it doesn't exist, it appears on the sidebar and cause segfault if you click on it. But for now, pcmanfm2 is really usable, and pretty as fast as the old one. And having gvfs support is quite nice :) Regards, Julien Lavergne Le lundi 25 janvier 2010 à 20:47 +0800, PCMan a écrit : > Hi list, > It's about time to have the first public release of pcmanfm2 as most > planned features are implemented. > There is still much to do, but I think current work is impressive enough. > So I'm here calling for help on checking the grammar and spelling > errors in the UI. > After all of those strings are fixed, translation can be started. > I would like to release the first tarball for technical preview purpose. > However, I'm still thinking about what version number to use. > The total rewrite actually deserves a "1.0" rather than "0.7". > But it's stability is far from "1.0" and it's still so buggy. > Anyways, desktop management is 70 % completed, and file manager parts > are about 85 % completed. > Patches, comments, and suggestions are needed. > > Cheers! > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > Throughout its 18-year history, RSA Conference consistently attracts the > world's best and brightest in the field, creating opportunities for Conference > attendees to learn about information security's most important issues through > interactions with peers, luminaries and emerging and established companies. > http://p.sf.net/sfu/rsaconf-dev2dev > _______________________________________________ > Lxde-list mailing list > Lxd...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/lxde-list |

For lxsession-logout: 1. Shutdown and Reboot should now be handled by ConsoleKit. 2. Hibernate and Suspend are handled by Devicekit-power, which is now renamed to upower in their git repo. However, not all distros support this so this is totally in a mess. But since we only require dbus, those supports are optional. If you're interested in this part you can try to improve it. 1. Exam wheter consolekit is available, if available, handle shutdown/reboot with it. Otherwise, handle it with HAL. 2. Exam if devkit-power is available. If It's available, handle suspend and hibernate with it. Otherwise, check if HAL can handle it. 3. If all of them are unavailable, check if gdm or kdm is running. KDM still received commands from kdmcontrol, but gdm already use ConsoleKit and gnome-power-manager directly and cannot be controlled via socket now. Another place to use devicekit-power is we need a new batteray plugin for lxpanel. Devicekit power gobject binding is quite usable and I think we should try to use it. Anyone wants to do it? It looks easy. We can add a new plugin in lxpanel-plugins and make it optional to lxpanel. Mouting is now handled by gio/gvfs, which in turns requires gnome-disk-utility. This is bad, but gvfs is tight to g-d-u now. If gnome dependencies is an issue, we need to fork gvfs and remove it. Hi all, We have just finished the migration from svn to git. Now the original svn access is read-only and doesn't allow further commit. Later it will be turn off after pootle is linked with git. Newly written source code should be pushed to git repositories instead. In addition to the original Pootle service, translation for LXDE components can now be done with Transifex as well. https://transifex.net/projects/p/lxde/ So translators can choose the tool they prefer more. Both pootle and transifex should work. Direct access to the source code repositories for the translators will be removed later for security reason. I just deleted PCManFM project and move those components to LXDE project instead. So translators previously did translation for libfm and pcmanfm2, please go to LXDE project instead. Cheers! |

Now all repositories are moved to git. You can browse all of them online: http://lxde.git.sourceforge.net/git/gitweb-index.cgi Each lxde component now has its own git repository. The old svn repository is still there, but write access of all developers are turned off. The only exception is brother. I kept his svn write access because of pootle. After pootle is linked with git and all latest translations are commit to git, the whole svn repo will be turned off. The old pcmanfm 0.5 series has been renamed to pcmanfm-legacy, and later will be replaced by pcmanfm2/libfm in development. So, developers can start using git now! |

Hello all users and developers, As mentioned previously, we're migrating from svn to git. The migration is almost complete. To ensure svn and git repos are in sync, now the svn repository is frozen. Please don't commit to svn repository from now on. After the migration is finished, I will send a notification to the mailing list. To prevent accidents, I temporarily removed svn access of developer accounts. If this cause any problems, please tell me. Thank you all! |

I don't think distros who pull from svn will be a major consideration. Lots of projects have gone over to git in the last few years and I am confident they are used to it. The thing that would affect them is being unclear that the svn repository is outdated and not to be used. Don't use the new git repo now! The current one is still under testing and link with pootle should be tested with this repo, too. Here I propose two ways for the migration: 1. move components from svn to git one by one. Push the source code to git, and delete the old ones in svn. After all components are moved to git, turn off svn. 2. Schedule a svn repo freeze, and do the migration at once, then unfreeze the git repo and turn off svn. Here is another issue. As some packages for some distros are built from svn head source code, turning off the svn repo might break them. Is there any better way to solve this? We need to know when the master sources are the git sources and changes should be put there. Also, we already have divergence with svn due to translation checkins that needs to be cleared up. Not the way to do this. First you announce a checkin freeze, then you do the conversion, then you announce an unfreeze and start using the new repository. |

I intend to roll a release of lxterminal in the next few days. It has been a bit over six months since we had one. If there is any objection let me know. I would like to do a release of lxpanel soon, but it would be good to get the "systray crash" solved first. Unfortunately I cannot reproduce it. If there is someone who is experiencing it who can ssh in, run lxpanel under the debugger until it happens, and debug it, that would be excellent. |
