In some cases, having the Xauthority in HOME is not secure (if the home is suddently not accessible, see bug report for an example). The patch attached (from the bug report) put it in /tmp, like xdm. But it could be nice to have an option to be able to do both, in home or in tmp, specify by an option in lxdm.conf.
You can follow the discussion about this on the lxdm bug report (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxdm/+bug/558765), but also on a similar bug reported of lightdm (https://bugs.launchpad.net/lightdm/+bug/685194), which have the opposite problem.

    add an option at config file
    [base]
    xauth_path=/tmp
