In N-way N stands for the number of processors active on the machine. A
2-way machine will have 2 processors and so on. Huge machines 32-way and
so on will have capability of adding additional processors, this is done
in 2 ways, the machine is shipped with N processors and only (N-M)
processors are enabled in software, you will have to buy additional
license to enable additional processors or the other approach is to
provide slots for additional processors, you can buy additional
processors as needed.
