Using the -x option already takes advantage of multiple processors by
allowing test programs to run in parallel.  Pan is mostly waiting on
processes to exit.

I'm sure there are many ways you could make pan multi-threaded.  It's
really up to you to decide which method you want to use.  Once you know
that I might be able to give you some pointers on the code.
