I had a patch some time ago for get_pid to fix the problem where it will
hang the machine if you run out of pids. It got accepted in 2.4, and
someone here also made an enhanced version of it that offered better
performance when there were a lot of processes.
The problem is that neither one of these ever got into 2.5 and one of my
tests is still hanging on a machine where I have enough memory to create
that many processes. Is there any plan to push the lse version of that
to 2.5, or were there other ideas for this? Mine worked but it was just
a hack and I'm sure there are better solutions out there that would be
nicer to go into 2.5.
For those who are interested, fork07 from the latest Linux Test Project
release is a test that will expose the problem.
