    Interesting. Did the error happen just after starting
    lostirc, or after a while?

    Could you paste output of "strace lostirc"?

    it must have been a library problem... i rebuilt and
    upgraded glibmm and gtkmm. Then i rebuilt lostirc and it
    works just fine now.
