This should be no problem to setup unless you hit some unknown bug.=20 Try adding an input that you connect to the outputs of jamin. Add a track a= nd=20 connect the input to this track and rec-enable the track. If you start recording in muse you should end up with a new track that=20 contains the output from jamin. > > > Overall it sounds a bit to clean for my taste, digital... > > Yes, but it was not my intention that my songs sound "like from the > 90ies": they sound like soundfont based songs. I use soundfonts for many things and to get them a bit more interesting (in= my=20 view) I use effects quite liberally. Distortion and filters can do wonders = to=20 provoke new sounds, that's what I use mostly. =2E.. to be able to use the effects per-instrument, you need to load them i= nto=20 separate instances of fluidsynth, that is what I mostly do. It's a bit hard= er=20 to manage and wasted a bit of cpu, but not alot. > But I tried to make MusE to be able to handle VST-plugins, but most of > the VST plugins I tried (free ones yet) did not work at all, nothing to > hear. Many people claim to have used VST plugins and synths with good results... = I=20 cannot count myself among these. Sometimes it works, most times it does not= =2E=20 It's great that the compatibility layer wine provides does exist, but it's= =20 still hard to get it to work in real-life. Admittedly there are some _really_ high quality effects and synths availabl= e=20 in VST format that would be nice to use. Though linux native effects, mainl= y=20 LADSPA, do go a long way to support what you need. The philosphy is somewhat different between VST and LADSPA which might resu= lt=20 in LADSPA being a bit harder to use. Reasons mainly being lack of dedicated= =20 gui and plugs more often built as building-blocks that are made to be used = in=20 chains. VST's often provide a "complete effect", whereas you may need sever= al=20 LADSPA's to achive the same functionalty, that is my view anyway.=20 Some would say that LADSPA allows for more artistic freedom ;) > > And I have to admit, I am not familiar with VST plugins: which ones > should I use, or are worth using? This is not easy to answer, pretty much all plugs that "do something" are=20 usable in a context. I use lots of different, you be the judge if it's=20 helping ;) To try answer the question with what I like I rephrase the question for=20 LADSPA; ...=20 =2D TAP plugins give good implementations for many standard effects, eq,pan= etc. =2D SWH plugins...there are lots of them of varying quality and function, I= use=20 the compressors and distortions alot.=20 =2E.. lots of others... I realize as I ponder over this now that it's reall= y=20 hard to provide such a list.=20 I'd suggest getting a grip on what different effects do to the sound, there= =20 are lots of material about this on the net, for instance: http://www.harmony-central.com/Effects/effects-explained.html When I record stuff I often experiement quite a bit with effects. As an=20 example I might decide that a short delay and some eq may enhance the track= ,=20 I pop-up the plugin dialog and type "delay" in the search box (oh boy am I= =20 proud and happy with this addition ;) and then decide which one of the ones= =20 listed may work best, and the same for the eq. The one effect that isn't so well implemented in LADSPA, yet, is reverb. Th= ere=20 are some nice ones but I don't think they are great. There are IR based=20 reverbs that provide very nice sound, but they consume lots and lots of CPU= =20 so they are still hard to use. > > > I think the song(s) would benefit from adding a real instrument, a > > guitar in the background or something. > > Yes, I certainly agree (I was too lazy to add another instrument).
