Some crucial features are still missing, such as support for using Carla as an effect plugin (instrument only for now), and automations are not supported at all yet. We should probably advise people who build binaries, even on Linux, to not include Carla in their builds, and leave it only for people who self-compile for now. But yeah, it's still a great step forwards for LMMS, and eventually it's going to offer some pretty cool functionality for us. I just don't want people to get too excited (and thus disappointed) at this point in time. > It has many dependencies that aren't currently bundled with LMMS, so > if we decide to bundle for the proprietary OSs, > AFAIK Carla doesn't yet run on Windows at all, so bundling for Windows is right out until/unless someone ports it for Windows. And frankly, even then, I don't really see that much benefit in doing so - how many LV2/DSSI plugins are there available on Windows? How many Windows users are willing to port/compile those plugins on their platform? Windows users already have plenty of native VST plugins, and Carla isn't likely to improve on LMMS's VST compatibility there... |
