'lo all,

I've been using LMMS since the beginning and although I use it exclusively on Linux, I think the word "Linux" in the name of a product is never a good idea.  It implies that LMMS is in some way dependent on the Linux kernel itself, when in fact it is not.  It would be more logical to name it A(lsa)MMS, J(ack)MMS, S(dl)MSS, Q(t)MMS etc.if you'd want to point out dependencies.

So my suggestion is this, although it's probably the hardest thing to do, it might be a good idea to drop the acronym entirely; pick a name that reflects more direct what it actually is and at for whom it is intended to use.

Personally I like "Loopix", the reference to unix is still there (Unix rox !), and the "Loop" part refers to what it actually does, sequencing i.e. looping  ;-) Ah yes, and the pun on FruityLoops is not by accident, I think that name was brilliant and fun, "FL Studio" parted from it just because of that, they wanted to enter a new market and hence needed a dull name.

grtz,
Gert

PS : is anyone working on implementing FLAC support ?  If not, I'm going to ... I at last have some free time :)

I stand from a point of someone who tries to promote the use of this software, and this has indeed been an issue.
I have pointed people (windows users) to lmms and didn't even bother reading that there exists windows binaries of
this software the time they read the word 'linux'. It sounds silly, but it IS a 'marketing' problem.
