It (irw) is working here w/2.6.27-rc6 or so + the git tree I'm patching the Fedora kernels from. Haven't tested with the latest F9 updates kernel lately though (2.6.26.x-based). Anything interesting show up if you load both lirc_mceusb2 and lirc_dev with debugging enabled? (options lirc_dev debug=1, options lirc_mceusb2 debug=1 in /etc/modprobe.conf or /etc/modprobe.d/lirc or some such thing, or load them by hand with debug=1 added to the modprobe line(s)).
