I've been having some issues getting the receiver circuit mentioned on the LIRC site to accept a particular remote of mine and have been wondering as a result about some alternatives. What I am considering is a learning remote modified to be run by a small microprocessor. There are a couple of different things in my junk box like a Basic STAMP and some old PICAXEs which should do the job. The idea is to get a learning remote, open it up and interface the processor to the circuit with transistors on each button. This sort of simple processor can also handle simple RS232 so it should be possible to write some code to send the channel required via serial, have the processor press the appropriate button via the transistor and voila I have a transmitter capability from my Linux box that works with my particular cable STB. Anyone ever embark on this sort of path? Regards Marty |
