Hi,
I have the same intension like you that is controlling multiple application 
using the mode option.  I also have a 24 buttons (creative infrasuite) remote
and configured the same buttons to execute different action in different 
mode. but pressing that button fire out all the actions defined in different 
mode to do different job. any how your idea is impressive & please let me 
know or send the .lircrc if it will work properly. I am seriously waiting for 
the lirccd which may provide a better mode option to over come all this mode 
problem in .lircrc
