I'm a newbie to linux and am trying to get a mp3 box up and running. I
have used the CIMR under windows with no problems, but can't get it to
receive in linux.
I have done the install per the instructions in the documentation and
lircd and lircm are in /dev. I attached /dev/lirc to /dev/ttyS0 as my
receiver is hooked to Com1. =20
root@...:/home# ls -al /dev/lirc*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 Dec 3 13:22 /dev/lirc ->
srw-rw-rw- 1 root root 0 Dec 3 21:36 /dev/lircd=3D
prw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Dec 2 22:10 /dev/lircm|
When I run irw I get the following error:
connect: Connection refused
when I run irrecord I get the following error:
root@...:/home# irrecord -d /dev/lirc .lircrc
irrecord - application for recording IR-codes for usage with lirc

I noticed that the Serial driver is being started at boot, and was
wondering if this could be the problem.
Part of dmesg:
Serial driver version 5.05c (2001-07-08) with HUB-6 MANY_PORTS MULTIPORT
SHARE_IRQ SERIAL_PCI enabled
ttyS01 at 0x02f8 (irq =3D 3) is a 16550A
ttyS02 at 0x03e8 (irq =3D 4) is a 16550A
If this is the problem, how would I turn off the serial driver at boot?
Any other help would be appreciated.
