I am trying to control my HiFi equipment with a homebrew serial
transmitter and I seem to be missing important information regarding the
hardware/software options that are available within Lirc. Please note
that I am an ordinary user with no interest in hacking, re-coding or
anything. I simply want to use the driver to talk to my minidisc deck.
First of all, when I run ./configure I can select "homebrew" and the
correct com port. That's fine, but what other options do I select when I
build one of the transmitter circuits suggested under
http://www.lirc.org/transmitters? What do the menu options "Software generated
carrier", "Igor Cesko's variation" and/or "with transmitter diode" mean,
what does the serial circuitry look like and how is it connected to the
individual lines of the serial port?
There is pretty much discrepancy between the hardware information
presented on www and the hardware infos the device driver presents upon
configuration. For example, I have bought irdeoX, a simple transmitter
with just one IR LED and a current-limiting resistor connected in series
on the serial TX line. Now I want this to power on my minidisc recorder.
What options do I need select within the ./configure script? There is no
info to be found anywhere.
Why don't the driver makers clearly say what component circuitry is
behind their driver concepts?
A simple table stating the relevant LiRC driver option and the serial
line connection would certainly do for this purpose.
Otherwise noone will be able to use LiRC for transmitting purposes which
would be a real shame.
I know that there are people out there who can certainly help with their
experiences and advice.

You would have to select the IRdeo remote device in this case...
