i've been using my kworld tv878rf in linux for quite a
while. i've used it just fine in both 2.4 and 2.6
kernels but recently i had to run windows for a while
and i got spoiled on the availability of a remote. =(
i like the idea of lirc, because i'd like to use the
remote for more than just tv eventually. i've had
some serious issues getting the thing to work however.
on the bytesex.org lirc/bttv mini tutorial it says use
the event dev input layer module. i have compiled it
in my kernel (not module) and nothing but mouse and
keyboard appears in /proc/bus/input/devices. so maybe
thats not the way to go. so i tried ./setup.sh in
lirc and configured it to use the kworld driver. i
make, and make install. it puts the right lircd.conf
in /etc and builds the right modules and puts em in
the right places. i can modprobe lirc_gpio right in
with no problem....

that seems to be fine right? but if i run lircd and
try irw i get nothing. if i try irrecord it says
/usr/local/bin/irrecord: gap not found, can't continue
i've got these i2c options in my kernel...
# I2C support
# CONFIG_I2C_CHARDEV is not set
# I2C Algorithms
# CONFIG_I2C_ALGOPCF is not set
# CONFIG_I2C_ALGOPCA is not set
im running 2.6.10-rc1 INCLUDING the latest kraxel
patches (2.6.10-rc1-2). is there anything i can do to
see if its even picking up the ir from the remote? if
there's some long difficult process of deducing what
codes are what, im more than willing to go through it.
i just need a nudge in the right direction. any

I strongly discourage anyone to use the dev/input driver if there is
native lirc support for a remote.
Please make sure to disable anything regarding dev input before

Load lirc_gpio in debug mode and check the log output.
