Hi! As I explained at the beginning of the tread in http://old.nabble.com/lirc_igorplugusb-OOPS-on-disconnect-td26330067.html lirc_igorplugusb gets me an OOPS when I disconnect the device after I started lircd. I was told this was fixed, but it is not. It doesn't work either. Trying irrecord, I get about five dots, and even though the receiver-led blinks when I send further keypresses, irrecord times out with "no data received for 10 sec". Timo |

Are you sure that you have the latest lirc_igorplugusb module loaded? modinfo lirc_igorplugusb will tell you which file is actually loaded. > It doesn't work either. Check the kernel log for error messages. The igorplug hardware is near garbage and will work reliably only for RC-5 remotes. Christoph |

Ok, then let's look at the trace again. The OOPS happens in usb_remote_disconnect after the printk. --- cut --- if (!ir || !ir->d) return; printk(KERN_INFO DRIVER_NAME "[%d]: usb remote disconnected\n", ir->devnum); lirc_unregister_driver(ir->d->minor); kfree(ir->d); usb_buffer_free(dev, ir->len_in, ir->buf_in, ir->dma_in); kfree(ir); --- cut --- Please tell me at which line the OOPS happens. I installed a new minimal installation of Karmic on 2 PC's (for HTPC use) yesterday and apparently there has been an update that is causing LIRC to hang occasionally on startup. Two weeks ago I installed minimal Karmic on two other machines and they don't have this problem. The only difference is the kernel has been updated. Anyway this is where it is hanging (occasionally): *Loading LIRC Modules lirc-0.8.6[774]:lircd(default) ready, using /var/run/lirc/lircd Any suggestions? Thanks, Lee |

Thanks for the reply. dmesg --> http://pastebin.com/m2a9fe82b hardware.conf --> http://pastebin.com/m2645a074 I am assuming that you are asking for the contents of hardware.conf. Setting LOAD_MODULES=false isn't going to do a damned thing. Its a usb device, with a device driver that exports supported usb device IDs. The driver will be automatically loaded. Similarly, setting REMOTE_MODULES is totally useless in this case. Testing with the transceiver not plugged in is a valid test though. You could also try booting with it plugged in, but without starting the lirc daemon. -- Jarod Wilson ja...@wi... |

OK, finally had a chance to do some testing. I have determined that I will not get the freeze during boot if the USB IR dongle is not connected. I have tried three separate USB IR dongles (all from TopSeed) and all three will hang the boot process eventually. Another test I did, was perform another clean installation on another PC with minimal karmic and no LIRC. It never hung during boot (tried about 15 cold boots and reboots). Installed LIRC and connected the USB IR dongle and it hung on the very next reboot. What else can I do to help figure this issue out? Just a side note, I am a Linux novice so I might need some help performing specific troubleshooting. Don't know if this applies, but I've seen some dodgy USB 1.x hubs that caused similar problems with certain devices plugged into them, and I've seen dodgy devices that were "fixed" by placing them behind a suitable hub. In general, there are situations where some USB devices and some hubs (including some root hubs) just don't get along (primarily USB 1.x devices). Changing the hub mix can sometimes help. Worth trying as a quick test. -BobC On 01/22/2010 12:20 PM, Jarod Wilson wrote: > On Fri, Jan 22, 2010 at 12:37 PM, Nugent, Lee > <Lee...@ku...> wrote: > >> OK, finally had a chance to do some testing.
