Lots of people are interested in using it, because this is the driver for the remotes used by lots of TV tuners (i.e Leadtek TV 2000). There are messages on every forum of every new distro concerning this subject (lirc-gpio support broken). Since none of the workarounds worked for me, I simply beg the lirc developers to start working. |

I am surprised at that, because out of all the people this is affecting, only one person needs to be able to do it for it to get fixed. A suggestion: would it be possible to just get the upstream kernel to revert the patch that broke this in the first place? That'll probably be countered with: "Get lirc into mainline"... So what is the status of that? Once there, apparently there is an army of hackers waiting to fix it :) http://linux.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/10/28/0233231 Second suggestion: somehow pool together a bounty to encourage someone to step up. I wouldn't be me cos it'd need to cover the cost of a UK TV license too ;) (I'm assuming all lirc_gpio hardware includes a tuner) Laurence |

This does not necessarily mean you have to code it yourself. [...] > A suggestion: would it be possible to just get the upstream kernel > to revert the patch that broke this in the first place? Getting a statement from the bttv developers why the lirc hooks were removed and what they suggest to do would be a good starting point. > That'll > probably be countered with: "Get lirc into mainline"... The point is someone has to start orgnaising this. Simply waiting and hoping that someone else will do it won't work. Christoph |
