Hey all I am having many many issues getting LIRC to work on Ubuntu Gutsy it was working perfectly on Feisty.

The problem I am seems to be with both packages and compiled code.

when I use the apt repositories (multiple versions of LIRC) I can get the dongle to flash with my remote presses.. I can get the daemon to load.. However when I run IRW nothing shows for presses, xmode2 shows nothing on the wavelengths, and irrecord simply errors out stating it can't reset the TTY.

I have similar luck after compiling 0.8.4..  I can get the daemon to run.. I am not loading any modules.

Once the Daemon is running if I run irw to get any key presses I get the following
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
root@Mythtv:~# /usr/local/sbin/lircd -n -d /dev/ttyS0 /etc/lirc/lircd.conf
lircd: lircd(pixelview) ready
lircd: accepted new client on /dev/lircd
lircd: could not reset tty
lircd: WARNING: Failed to initialize hardware
lircd: select() failed
lircd: Bad file descriptor
lircd: removed client
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Then I am unable to simply stop the process with the Ctrl-C or something I need to pass it a kill request.

I get similar luck with irrecord..
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
root@Mythtv:~# /usr/local/bin/irrecord -d /dev/ttyS0 /tmp/test

Here is some other stuff to look at.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
root@Mythtv:~# lsmod |grep lirc
root@Mythtv:~#

root@Mythtv:~# ls -l /dev/lirc*

prw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 2008-10-23 16:59 /dev/lircm

Any input you guys may have is very welcome.. This is as you might have guessed on my PVR.. everything is working but its annoying having to use a keyboard after all this time..
