I'm having an extremely frustrating time getting lirc to run on Fedora 14 (Laughlin), kernel
Unfortunately I only get an hour or two a week to tinker with it, so this has dragged on for weeks...
I'm using a home-brew IR receiver & transmitter(two separate devices at this point) connected to an old-fashioned RS23 serial port.

I'm able to run irrecord and record config files for all my remotes (I will send them along so others can use them)

I can only run irrecord 'manually', 'make install' doesn't seem to work at all. After 'make install' I have no lirc device (/dev/lirc does not exist) so none of the programs work. If I manually install lirc_dev.ko and lirc_serial.ko I get a /dev/lirc0 device. If I disable ttyS0, and start lircd, then I am able to run mode2 and irrecord successfully.

If I try to send a code using irsend I get the "hardware does not support sending" error.
What do I need to do to enable sending?

Here is /var/run/lirc:
total 4
srw-rw-rw-. 1 root root 0 May 18 16:10 lircd
-rw-r--r--. 1 root root 5 May 18 16:10 lircd.pid

Here is /dev/lirc*
crw-rw-rw-. 1 root root 250, 0 May 18 16:02 /dev/lirc0

I have tried all this both using 'sudo' and also as user root.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
