If I unplug my Bamboo Fun then plug it back in, it behaves as a touchpad, only moving the mouse if the tip of the pen is in contact with the surface of the tablet. If I run wacdump, the tablet is still detecting that the pen is in proximity of the tablet. I tried running xidump after unplugging then replugging the tablet, but it won't start.

$ xidump stylus
X Error: 171 BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device
Unable to open input device 'stylus'
$ xidump eraser
X Error: 171 BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device
Unable to open input device 'eraser'

    This is a 'normal' behavior.. When you unplug the tablet the kernel device that we are reading will go away, and we'll have to close the connection to the tablet. When you plug it back in again there is no way in the current driver that can detect that it is back. We are working to add proper support for adding/removing InputDevices as you add/remove tablets on the system (only for Xorg 7.3), which will solve this issue once and for all.

    The normal workaround for this to switch VT (CTRL-ALT-F1 and then ALT-F7) which will force the driver to re-open the tablet.

    NOTE! 0.7.9-5 and 0.7.9-6 contains a patch for another bug (1843335 - X crashes on login) which will cause a crash when doing this. We're currently testing a patch that will solve this too, 0.7.9-7 should contain this correction.

    Okay, thanks. I'm using 0.7.9-4, so I'll try the VT switching workaround.
