#274 Azerty keyboard/modifiers treated as (weird) QWERTY

Several modifiers do not act as desired on an AZERTY laptop. For instance, to have as a result the modifier "+", I need to use the modifier "=" in the xsetwacom set command. Modifier "-" is obtained by using "7" in the xsetwacom command.

Key mapping does not coincide with a true QWERTY keyboard either, somme modifiers are "randomly" switched and others seem unattainable.

Laptop is a HP Envy dv7 7390eb with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (updated).

I will be glad to submit logs etc. if given the necessary commands.

We've recently been getting a number of reports of keyboard layout issues (e.g. here, and [bugs:#269]). Using a French layout (on a QWERTY keyboard, in case it makes any difference) seems to work fine for me, though I have not yet tested with Ubuntu to see if there's any particular difference there.

Right now we don't automatically add in the shift key if its needed, but you can manually specify it (e.g., using either +shift + -shift or +shift = -shift should cause a "+" to appear when you press the expresskey).

As in the "Re: [Linuxwacom-discuss] xsetwacom not working with keyboard switcher KDE" message which you refer to above, the errors in key mapping "don't really make sense" in my case either. Meaning that the mapping xsetwacom seems to use isn't AZERTY nor QWERTY nor anything I know. Several modifiers also point to the same (wrong) key.

Maybe bug 269 is related and the patch mentioned there corrects the problem? I have no idea however how to install the patch and if that would be useful in my case (I'm an experienced Linux user but not a programmer and get as far as normal apt-get use and copy-paste CLI, but no further). If someone holds my hand I'm willing to try stuff, if it helps the project. (For me personnally it's not such a big deal, I've got my workaround).
Thanks for the reply in any case.

Just checking up to see if the new xf86-input-wacom 0.29 release has changed anything (since it fixes bug #269). I don't believe 0.29 is available through Ubuntu's repositories yet, but it'll be easier to walk through the process of compiling now that you don't have to patch things as well. Instructions can be found at http://linuxwacom.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Xf86-input-wacom

Closing as out-of-date due to a lack of feedback. If the bug still exists in 0.30.0, please re-open.
