If I recall fips looks for freespace at the end before write action. Since you have an extended partition below, it may not work. Please check the fips docs though, because my recall is a bit hazy. If you delete your total extended partition, fips will be able to slice out a portion from your C: (/dev/hda1). You would have to recreate your partitions later. Unfortunately, fips is a DOS program, and can do the job even from a floppy boot (in pure DOS mode). I do NOT know of any Linux program which does the same job of non-destr- uctive partitioning for you.
