Hello, I am writing to the group in desperation and in hope that new developments to the netbook/psion 7 have been taking place which have not been published. I have a netbook 32MB with a german keyboard. For some time I have been trying to get the nebook to boot under linux based on the work of Peter van Sebille. Paul Tap has also kindly made his setup available and I am afraid that did not help either. I am now looking for advise and tips from the group in general being as I am not sure how to come forward. I am using the latest arlo from Peter's site 2.01. I have a netbook with 32 RAM and a German Keyboard. I have been using the psion 7 series kernels as well as compiling my own. Essentially it would seem that arlo loads the kernel and the initrd.gz ( if specified ). Shortly after completing the reading of the initrd.gz, the netbook seems to go into a soft reset, together with a blank screen and a boop and that is it. The machine then returns to the EPOC mode after its moment of indigestion. I have tried to hook up minicom on the serial line and all I see is "got key" as I work through the menus that arlo has to offer. I have tried numerous parameters in the kernel command with various speeds for the console serial line. Still no noise ont the line. I am now fairly sure that the As Arlo starts up it says it sees a netbook and pretending to be a series7 If I go into advanced mode it shows me the boot times from d:\arlo\arlo.cfg and then says, pretending to be a series5mx... In summary, arlo finds the kernel and initrd. I think that as it starts to relocate the kernel.. the trouble starts.. but I have no proof of it. I wonder if the kernel loading address 0xC020 8000 could be a different address for the netbook? When I type the list of register addresses with h, the c0208000 would not seem to be present. Is there away to see what it is that maybe the netbook doesn't like??? Does anyone some tips as to how I could come a little further forward.. is there away to get more feedback from arlo or the psion netbook as to what the problem is? Or is there a sequence of checks I can follow in arlo's advanced mode that would help me find out what is wrong?? Alternatively is there another way to boot the netbook? I gather Tony Lindgreen developed an alternative for the 5mx?? Could this be adapted to the netbook? Secondly Peter's original work was based on a 2.4.2 kernel and a combination of Russel King's and Nico Pitre's patches for the SA1100. I cannt see Nico's patches after 2.4.10. We sit at kernel 2.4.18/19. Assuming one wanted to syncronize with later kernels and to take advantage of new updates and fixes of bugs.. is there a written procedure or tips as to how one would go by this still using patch source. Or is this just something to be tacked by the real experts and not those who would simply like to contribute?? Thanks if any one can/has time for any help on any of these points.
