On the IRDA, unfortunately I don't have a device called ttyAM0. The kernel is the 2.4.27 one from Sourceforge complete with modules for irda and irdatty which load up fine. I am just reinstalling irda-utils_0.9.16-9 as I type this so here goes.. Firstly it's asking what kind of FIR chip type the Psion has - I don't know so try Googling for "psion 5mx" plus the name of each option but none jump out. We'll go with option 1, 'ali-ircc'. Next do I want to pass options to the module with 'modinfo'? No. Press return... Then it says... Architecture-specific modutils configuration not found, using defaults Starting IrDA service: irattach A 'ps -ef' reveals that there's no irattach process running. If I try doing a 'irattach /dev/ttyAM0 -s 1' I get 'no such device'. Do the same with '/dev/ircomm0' and the message 'IrCOMM protocol (Dag Brattili) - registered device irda0' comes up but if I go to another console, do an 'irdadump' and try to send a file from a mobile phone to the Psion I get nowt. Same goes if I do 'cat > /dev/ircomm0' on another console and type a few characters, so I conclude that the device isn't working properly. Clues... IrDA needs the 'makedev' and 'module-init-tools' (which I think is another name for modutils) packages to work. I've just reinstalled makedev with no problem. Now reinstalling module-init-tools 3.2-pre1-2.deb and I get the following error message: Configuration for arm not found, trying arm.generic Architecture-specific config file not found I wonder if this is the problem given the 'modultils' error given by the irda- utils installation? Cheers all for the help - liked the mount / unmount MsDOS partition trick for getting files across... :-) ----------------------------------------------- This mail sent through http://webmail.zoom.co.uk |
