Ok, I had some time this morning, so I hooked up CSR BC02-ext module to LEDDRV and PHDIN lines of Windermere ASIC and turned off SiR signal encoding for UART0. No go. That leads me to conclusion that Psion decided to use separate RX and TX signal lines for UART0 when it's in "normal" UART mode. That would make perfect sense, and that's how it's done in Cirrus Logic PS7111 ASIC in the first place. The problem is, however, that AFAIK Windermere ASIC is made pin compatible with older CL-PS7110, and PS7110 doesn't have "normal" uart mode of UART0, only IRDA mode, and thus no separate TX & RX lines, only LEDDRV and PHDIN lines. So, assuming that Psion traced these lines to some two pins in Windermere ASIC, does anyone have any idea or good guess which pins these could be? Reading thru Psion's Series_5mx_specs.pdf file makes me believe that they are connected, at least authors of this document were quite certain that UART0 could be used as a regular UART. The Windermere is a 208 pins ASIC, and there're plenty of unused pins. I would guess that thay could share it with some unused GPIO pins, but I don't have a scope to verify it. Maybe someone with scope can give it a try? Without knowing which pins are these, we are limited to using UART1 and thus loosing serial port and that simply sucks.
