well, we almost made it in time to send you a May newsletter.
So what's been going on at 1409.org?
* New LinKT release?
A lot of you have already been asking for a new LinKT-version. Since the
last official release, 0.6.2, quite some time has passed. In our CVS, in
the 0-6-3 branch, you will find the lastest and last version for
Qt1/KDE1. This version is not under current development! Jochen now only
maintains the new Qt2/KDE2 version, available via anonymous CVS.
* Packet Radio Convention April 2000
As announced, we visited the 16th International Packet Radio
Convention in Darmstadt, Germany .
Our Linux workshop was quite a success, getting many new packeteers to
visit the convention. We will try to repeat the workshop next year.
Thanks to SuSE for the free evaluation CDs.
Jochen gave a speech on ideas for a new convers protocol, but he needs
others who can support his efforts. So if you have ideas or would even
like to help develop a new convers server, do not hesitate and contact
Hans-Peter gave information on DIDADIT and its implementations.
Currently you can didadit between Paxon , LinKT , WinSTOP and
the fileserver in dedicated Baycom mailboxes .
* LinKT2 news
Heavy work has been done on the new LinKT version for Qt2/KDE2. We have
reached a feature freeze for LinKT 0.7.0. Among the added features are:
- enhanced BoxCheck
- new buttonbar for enhanced usability
- GnuPG-support: sign messages, check received messages, send public
- new queue for filetransmission
- many little enhancements
This version will not run with Qt 1.4x or KDE 1.x. You will have to
install Qt 2.1 and KDE 1.90 (or higher). There should be be binary
packages available .
Screenshots of the new version are on our site .
* New project: G-PSK31
G-PSK31 is an new easy to use PSK31 terminal program, based on the
PSK31-Implementation by Hansi, DL9RDZ and the GTK+ Toolkit. G-PSK31 ist
written by Luc, LX2GT and can now be found on our site .
* HAM RADIO in Friedrichshafen
Some of us will visit the HAM RADIO in Friedrichshafen, Germany in
June. We will present a stable version of LinKT2, presumably a 0.7.0
I will hopefully have the (German) documentation ready until then.
Perhaps HP and I can even sync the English translation. Other languages
probably won't be ready in time.
Whatever we get done will be on a CD which we are going to distribute at
the exhibition. This CD will include a current LinKT version as well as
neccessary KDE-packages in rpm format, as binaries and in source. We
will try to fill the CD with other useful stuff, such as GnuPG,
ax25-config, etc. The CD will cost DM 7-10 (or $4-5), just for the
media, burning and a little bit to cover our domain and hosting costs of
Most likely you will find us at the ADACOM booth in hall 9.
ax25-config is a menu driven tool for configuration of ax25-tools
HP has released an alpha version with many new and unfinished
features. New are support for YAM and soundcard modems. Please test this
version, especially if you use on of these modems, and send him reports.
You can grab a copy on our site . For your own sake, read the README
As always, you can reach us at feedback@... Here is a list of the
