With applications closing in a few days, and the all-important slot
allocation process beginning quite quickly after that I'd really like all
mentors to get themselves registered at http://socghop.appspot.com
Once you're registered send me your username and I'll invite you to be a
mentor. Even if you're unsure about whether a project you'd like to mentor
will make the cut, please register - it's important that we are able to show
we have sufficient mentors for as many slots as we are given!
Once you're on the system, please browse through the student applications
we've received so far and if there are any that are ones you'd like to
mentor, choose "I am willing to mentor this student".
Ultimately Carsten and/or I will assign mentors, but we'd like to know who's
interested in which projects before closing.
You should also feel free to add comments to any of the proposals you view -
you can make these private comments that only other mentors can see, or if
you have suggestions for improvements, make them public for the student to
After the 9th (closing time for applications) mentors are able to rate
students. We'd like to encourage all developers to have a say about
different projects but restrict the scoring options to mentors to just
adding one or subtracting one. That way we'll get a sense of which projects
everyone is ranking but it will still allow us to adjust them easily at the
end once we've had a final selection meeting.
The time to do all of this is now, since there is very little time left J
To summarise the main points of this email:
1) Get yourself registered as a mentor for LimeSurvey on
2) Look through student applications and add yourself as a possible
mentor to any that interest you
3) Make comments on any of the applications that interest you - let
the students see these if knowing the comment would help them refine their
application before the 9th
4) After the 9th rank ones you think are good with a +1, bad with a -1
Thanks for your help!
