Interesting. I should pull in those tarballs to the history some time.
So, basically, the code used to run on win32, then when ipv6 support
was added, the code just got obsoleted, but the win32 conditionals in
the old "portable" code were never removed.
Ouph, maybe I'll clean them up, some time.

about the mess with WIN32 unreachable code.

Looking at the diff show how the change was made.
Sure that the code in !(__WIN32__) else branch is unreachable since 1.1.1.
But that should not matter as the part added in 1.1.1 for (__WIN32__)
at the beginning of the file should be all that is needed for windows.
