So currently in libmesh you see this: $ make clean Makefile:66: .depend: No such file or directory Makefile:96: .depend: No such file or directory Makefile:69: .depend: No such file or directory Makefile:65: .depend: No such file or directory ... which is ridiculous. The warnings go away if we change 'include .depend' to '-include .depend'. This also suppresses errors if .depend cannot be remade for some reason* but I'd argue that case is probably rare.
