I recently experienced troubles with a firewire system that was
resetting the camera each time I was switching other equipments on/off.
The equipment in question was not a huge PSU, it was two small lasers
powered by good old wall transformers (no switching units). The problem
turned out to be the 1394 cable: replacing it with a different model
fixed the issue. It's not a length problem: the newer cable was longer
than the bad one. The bad cable is marked "ATake" on the connector.
Conclusion: if you have EMI problems it's definitely worth replacing the
cable with one from a reputable source. I know that "EMI" and "cables"
is kind of obvious but it took me some time to track this problem down.
