Every now and then my game will hang...i.e. can't move
the paddle, ball not moving, etc.

If the ball is moving downward, even if my paddle is
there to bouce it back, it's "magically" goes through
it and I lose during the game hang. Otherwise it will
appear where it should once it "comes back" from the
game hang.

does your system sometimes hang otherwise, too? never noticed such things here, at least not lbreakout specific. but i had systemwide hangs caused by debian/dma issue.

I have the same problem, but in my case it's caused by the KDE wallpaper
change (automated rotation of wallpapers in a certain directory). But it's not a
problem in my case, because the wallpaper change is not that often.

do you have a semilar application/service running? or maybe a crontab that
does something that may cause it? (e.g. copying files or something else that
may use a lot cpu/hd speed for a short time)

but the wierd thing is, that the ball only goes thru the player "panel", not the
"boxes". it seams like the ball continue slowly and don't update the screen
and dynamic items (player panel), but still uses the static "boxes".
