Hi! I'm part of a group ot Linux users who use LCDproc
and Linux on a PowerPC platform known as the Apple
Network Server. This box has a builtin LCD display
(it's a hd44780, really). The Linux kernel already has
driver support for accessing the device. What's
missing was something to use it. I've hacked older
versions of LCDproc to work on the ANS, and thought it
might be a good time to submit my patch to you. This
is against lcdproc-0.4.3. Since you re-designed
lcdproc (made it more modular), it was fairly easy to
make the necessary changes to add a new hd44780 variant
(once I understood just how it worked, that is:-) The
patch adds a new connect type (anslcd) and uses the
standard kernel device file (/dev/lcd) which can also
be specified in the LCDproc.conf.
The patch also has some other minor fixes in code that
appears to make some assumtions on how char types are
evaluated (basically, added (int) casts to fix it.
My hope is this will make it into the next major
revision of LCDproc so I won't have the patch it anymore.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me via
email, oh and thanks for providing a cool display tool!
